Creating BILLY Combinations was a way for Helmut Smits to reimagining a mass-produced IKEA product. Taking a product that is designed and set, with instructions and deliberately disobeying them. BILLY’s can be found in every home looking perfectly identical. By simply combining different finishes from the same product, Smits was able to reinvent the classic BILLY bookcase in a unique way.
