Green Cloud
2020
For the exhibition Descart, several artists were asked to submit an idea for a public sculpture that will only exist in Google maps. I proposed a tree be planted at the top of an old disused industrial chimney in Rotterdam’s historic district Delfshaven. The chimney previously responsible for polluting the city with large plumes of smoke, can now be used to help clean the air. The static green cloud of foliage standing high above on its brick pedestal, also serves as a symbol of nature’s power to reclaim sites of human activity.
