A New Collection without Adding Anything

2018
For the exhibition IKEA Hacked, Our Products, Your Ideas, Helmut Smits staged a small event where he created every possible combination involving the IDOLF chair. The chair consists of seven parts and comes in two colours. To create all his variations, Helmut multiplied the number of colours by the power of the number of parts: 2/7, which resulted in 128 different IDOLF chairs. Over the course of one week Helmut took 128 flat pack boxed IDOLF chairs (64 white and 64 black), put them together and exhibited them as one large grid.
